Aims of the Project
The aim of the Computer Technologies for Schools project is to facilitate greater student and teacher access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Australian schools.
Objectives of the Project
The project's objectives are to provide surplus government and private sector Information and Communications Technology equipment to schools across Australia to enable students and teachers to better understand new technologies and to participate in the information age.
The project will:
- Maintain the continued donation of surplus computers and ICT equipment from government (Australian Government, State, Territory,
and Local) and expand the project to encourage donations of surplus computers and ICT equipment from industry and private
business.
- Investigate and implement, where possible, alternative sources of services and expertise to support the objectives of the project by including the provision of assistance on an in-kind/volunteer basis.
Outcomes of the Project
The outcomes of the Computer Technologies for Schools project will be:
- A well managed, effective and efficient Computer Technologies for Schools project including the setting of targets for both
the public and private sector;
- A fair distribution process in conjunction with the State and Territory Committees both in terms of actual amounts of equipment
available to each State and Territory and the timing of its delivery;
- A database that records all contributions to the project by organisation/firm and individual:
- The number and type of equipment donated by State/Territory;
- The recipient schools; and
- Estimated value of equipment; and;
- Regular reports to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
